NOT ABSOLUTELY
The term ‘non-absolute’ is diversely interpreted; it is free of restriction, rare, relative, conditional or dependent on something else…just to start. Not Absolutely is a collection of forms that are non-absolute, they are to be defined or animated in tandem with the viewer. The object’s aim is to direct an inquiry of place and self. These ceramic forms work in the relative languages of texture, color, and shape leaving the viewer to generate narratives or fill in passages between the works. I utilized found objects that exist with measures of architectural, industrial, domestic, or structural association adding to the lexicon of the arrangement. I aim to deconstruct and reconstruct vernacular. I combine, layer, attach, and lift objects until original function and context becomes a starting point for dialogue between our shared cultural experiences and assumptions.
